The main architectural members of this building have been excavated and its design follows the type of the monopteron structure, described in detail by Vitruvius. The inlaid marble segments decorating the fluteless columns and the elaborate decoration of the epistyle are also extant. It has a single building phase dated to the Roman period. The only issue revolves around whether its interior housed an altar [Thompson, H.A., ‘Excavations in the Athenian Agora: 1951’,
Hesperia 21 (1952), pp. 102-103], or if the structure functioned as a fountain [Shear, T.L., ‘The Campaign of 1936’,
Hesperia 6 (1937), pp. 354-357].
